Delce Academy

Junior Leadership Team (JLT)

At Delce, we encourage our pupils to not only be amazing learners but also great leaders. Our Core Values and Character Skills support the children to develop skills such as mentoring, assertiveness, leadership, teamwork, and communication. To further encourage the children to feel engaged and proud of our school and our wider learning community we would like to invite them to take part in the JLT election process. The Junior Leadership Team (JLT) is a group of students who are elected to represent the views of all pupils and work together to improve our school and the community.

As part of the Junior Leadership Team, children will support the Governing Body, Head teacher, teachers and all other members of staff to find ways of improving the school experience for all pupils. The JLT are the representative of all pupils to enable them to have a say in improving their own education and developing new ideas for the future.

The Junior Leadership Team will meet weekly during lunchtime and discuss issues that are important to the children. The JLT will be led by Ms Kogut and with time will be taking on a variety of tasks and responsibilitiesIt is important that the children understand that belonging to the JLT is a big responsibility and needs to be taken seriously

Below, is a short overview of the roles and responsibilities of a JLT member at Delce. Teachers will be discussing them in detail in class, but we would also like to ask you to support those discussions at home if your child is interested in running for the role.

As part of their role as a JLT member the children will be required to:

  • Attend weekly meetings on a regular basis. These will happen during lunchtime.

  • Listen to the views and opinions of your class and bring ideas that will improve our school

  • Respect everyone’s ideas and opinions

  • Give information to your class

  • Present ideas during assembly

  • Work with other adults and governors to audit and improve areas of our school

  • Provide support to other children

  • Welcome visitors and help celebrate our learning.
